Has HMRC got it wrong, or is just me being thick?

Divorce left me as a single father of two, ages 14 months and 3 years. I spent a number of years bringing up my children. I claimed benefits as a single parent and was not required to sign on each week as I did not have to seek employment.

It has just been brought to my attention that I should have received National Insurance credits for those years; I did not and as a result I get a reduced pension.

Should I have been awarded National Insurance credits for those years? If so how do I rectify this and claim the correct pension payments?

Have you actually checked your state pension forecast? (see link in my signature)

I thought that if you were signing on as a parent that the NI would be sorted.

What timeframe are we talking about ? (In what did the youngest child turn 12)

Were you claiming child benefit ?

And what other benefits are you referring to where you 'were not required to sign on each week'

CB gives you credits until youngest child is 12.
