Not many free music sites that are legal, but if you like a particular artist, visit their site and they may have some songs free to download. Most have at least a couple nowadays.

Not a long term solution I know, but if you go through Quidco and join up to emusic you get to download 15 free tracks, within a 14 day period. You can then cancel and get £4.00 for free for your trouble! - you need a credit/debit card, and don't forget to cancel!

I tunes give you a free song every Tuesday. Apart from special offers, I think any site that gives free downloading isn't legal, otherwise how would the artists earn their money?

if you're on bebo you can join free single saturday, it's run by itunes and you get a free download every weekend, from what i can remember you also get a free download for adding them as a friend. i think there was a thread on here ages ago about it. but apart from that it's just what spendaholic and mrs bartolozzi have said, nothing legal that gives you loads of free downloads
