Fundamentally there are 3. ways to resolve situations where restructuring or re-grading leaves 'anomalous' individuals

    1. Pay Protection where their grade still exists elsewhere and they are 'under employed' in the role currently doing and still get treated as though they are their original grading and get cost of living pay settlement etc

    2. 'mark time ' / dminishing pay protection where the pay rate at the point of the restructure/ regrading is retained but any additional payment is diminihsed over tiem as the top of the new banding catches up

    3. redeployment / redundnancy based on grade based on vacancies at the time - redeployment / enhanced status in transfers can be a feature of 2 as well

decision an organisation takes may depend on contracts, Unions , or the individuals involved and the need to retain knowledge / operational experience in the function
