HP Sauce - can I make my own?

Does anyone know a good recipe for making a substitute for HP sauce?
I have someone in Israel who lives on the stuff and it's impossible to find there and expensive to ship over.
I've found several recipes via Google but I would rather not go through making several recipes (most of which make 6 pints or more per batch) only to find none of them taste like the original.
Apologies if there is already a post on this but HP is too short a search term to come back with anything useful.

Thanks
K

No idea! I have made my own tomato ketchup, bbq sauce, chutneys, jams, marmalades, but never HP sauce (it's not a frequent condiment at our house).

If you should try one of the recipes and you recommend it, do update this post as I'm sure there are others who would benefit from knowing :D:D:D

Yes I am interested in this too, as my OH is very keen on the HP 'fruity brown sauce' variety, which of course we cannot buy in France either. I have already thought of experimenting by blending my HM ketchup with one of my sweeter HM chutneys, adding some worcestershire sauce and blitz it all in the blender. But I haven't actually done it yet, as the shop bought stock from the UK hasn't run out.
