ishares ibonds?
anyone using or have looked into these? I haven’t checked what platforms provide them but they seem the closest I’ve seen to buying individual bonds but trading as ETFs. You could use them to generate a bond ladder for example and potentially buy and manage fairly easily within a SIPP platform?

Not a meaningful answer for you but I’ve put this years ISA allowance of £20k in an inc bond fund. Why, the ISA comes as part of the ii package, clocked a free £100 which has just been paid and the fund value has increased. To early to have received dividends. What I was hoping for was a better overall return than cash, not as volatile as equities and a little income paid into the cash account. As I’m not quitting work for almost three years I’m trying to line up/diversify sources of income. If it looks to perform in line with expectations I’ll invest more. Oh, and I don’t think it will be affected by the new shiny ISA rules coming.
Unsure if I would want to sell a chunk of equities within the SIPP or add new money to so as you’re suggesting. Difficult to know the exact path to take with a DB base income starting at 60. In saying that a pension transfer of £11k just landed in the SIPP which I stuck in the RL STMMF. The strategy there is if I got the chop before 60 there is an amount that can be drawn on without market worries. I plan on increasing this fund.
So you could say there is a bit of fun/experimentation going on here. Obviously this is a basic write up too so does not fully explain circumstances/life plans etc.0 -
Interesting…..not looked at them in depth yet (if any in depth info is actually available yet)……personally, for fixed income investments, I'd probably only be interested in the GBP hedged offerings of which there are just four, maturing 2026, 28, 30 and 32……but it's yet to be seen whether they can overcome the charges loading and offer anything meaningful over and above. The 2032 offering states a current YTM of 4.88% while gilt TR33 (maturing just a month later) was 4.58% on the same date……..not sure if that's enough tbh, even if the 4.88% is net of the 0.15% charge.

I have ERNS which is iShares Ultra short bond fund. My global ETF had reached my target price and I have a potential property deal within the next couple of years so decided to park some of the funds there. The price rises slowly as it approaches dividend date, drops at ex dividend and then the cycle starts again. The return is similar to money markets but it suited my needs as I didn’t know exactly when the funds were needed and Fidelity’s platform charge for ETFs is a fixed fee (equivalent to 0.015%)
