Protected Rights pot (contracted out of serps)
I joined the nhs in the late 80s and stupidly didn't join the pension scheme. I took out a private pension in the early 1990s, with which I purchased nhs pension years in mid 1990s.
A colleague told me she found an old contracted out of serps pension.
Could I also have a similar pot from the early 1990s? Checking on Google, it says the protected rights pot wouldn't have gone into buying nhs years but can't see anything to say what would happen to that kind of pot.
Any knowledge from experts would be appreciated.

If you used the pot to purchase NHS pension years, then there's no reason to think you didn't use the whole pot. The NHS scheme was contracted out, so was capable of accepting protected rights and would have converted these rights to Guaranteed Minimum Pension.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1
