Remortgage options - Cancer patient

Hi,

2 years ago, I was diagnosed with advanced cancer. I was/am the main provider and I have a mortgage with Skipton. I had good savings even now, that allowed me and my partner to take a sabbatical for a year to dedicate time to go into full recovery. I got lucky, and I have my cancer under control, and I am in the best position to be here for many years. During this time, I have not missed a mortgage payment and I have a great credit record. However, I have not been able to work properly, few months here and there contracting, and my partner is struggling to get a job. My mortgage deal ends in November, and I am terrified that they will put me at a variable rate. Currently, it can be 6.29 or 8.20.

I did not get income insurance cover because that is how they discovered the cancer. They tested me and found something bad, so all insurance processes were stopped. :(

Has anyone been in this kind of situation with Skipton, or other lender? And what are my options?

Thanks

About 3 months before your deal finishes, Skipton will write to you telling you your options.

One of them will be to log on to their website and choose a new product. You wont have to go on SVR. Skiptons rates are normally reasonable. Anything they offer you will be better than elsewhere I imagine and a whole lot easier to get.

Speak to a broker if you are struggling but the process is normally not too bad.

    Congrats on overcoming it.

Thanks, for this @born_again and @ACG ! You put my mind at ease. Have you been through their process before?

    Yup.

We have a few customers with Skipton. Choosing a new product is probably not the easiest with skipton, but at the same time its not overly complicated. If you follow the steps it should be fine.
