Mattress Advice!

It's January, the sales are on, and we need advice!

We need to get a new mattress that is suitable for us two tall people. We both have lower back problems, and are currently on a pocket-sprung mattress.
Trouble is as i'm heavier than my girlfriend, she is constantly falling in towards me, and it's adversely affecting her sleeping and giving her back problems.

Two solutions we've look at is memory foam mattresses, or two single mattresses put together, but most importantly we need something firm and stable and comfortable.

What do you recommend?

My OH has quite a severe back problem, we have jsut bought a mattress with pocket springs and a layer of memory foam (inside).
We also found that the best option is medium/firm for back problems. The memory is excellent as it offers support and contours to your body shape.

    Hi Sam Bee.

Are you 100% sure that your mattress is pocket sprung? The reason I ask is because you shouldn't get roll together with pocket springs as each spring works independently, and are designed to prevent roll together.

adandem is correct in saying that the best option for back support is the pocket spring/memory foam combination. However it isn't essential to go for a firm mattress. With the traditional open coil sprung mattresses the advice was allways to go for the firm option to keep your back straight. With pocket springs or memory foam this is no longer a problem as they will both contour to your body giving the support where required, and helping to keep the spine straight. So the firmness of the mattress is now a matter of personal choice. I should point out though, that memory foam isn't suitable for people who like a soft mattress, as it has to be high density in order to give you the support it is designed to.
