Utmost Life and Pensions unknown pension balance

My wife received a letter from Utmost life and pensions saying that she has an unclaimed pension of about £6K. It seems to be for AVC contributions but she says she never made any AVC contributions.

The letter does mention "National Health Service Pension Scheme Personal Pension - Residual Fund".

I believe that at some time many years ago, she and a lot of other NHS employees received dodgy advice to transfer out of the NHS pension, and it was later reversed back again.

Does anyone know if this is likely to be genuine? If so it must relate to some kind of residual amount that was left over when they transferred her back in again.

Ring Upmost Life & Pensions - use a number from their website rather than from the letter you have doubts about - and ask them.

Yes, it's likely to be genuine. Pension companies write to people all the time like this.
