Consumer Complaint

I Just wondered if anyone could help me.....
I went into a large toy shop chain yesterday and picked up two bath robes. Both had stickers clearly showing the price. When I went up to the till one of the robes came up as a higher price. When I challenged this the shop manager said that it would be the higher price...I did advise him that by law he would have to sell it to me at the lower, marked price...He said that there was no law stating this! Is this correct?
I will be wirting a letter of complaint to the head office of the store but want to make sure what I said is correct.....
Any help?
Thanks.

AFAIAW No shop (be it online or not) has to sell yu anything at any price. The price stated is only an offer to vend. There is no contract until money has changed hands, then it becomes more complicated.
In short, no, a shop does not have to sell you anything at the price stated. it is only an offer to vend. Most places will sell it to you atthe lower price as a goodwill gesture but there is nothing in law that states that the HAVE to sell it to you.0 -
I'm afraid you are wrong. Whilst many retailers often relent for the sake of customer satisfaction there is no such law.
The price is merely an "invitation to treat". There's no contract until it's paid for and the shop is not obliged to sell to you at the marked price.0 -
The answer is in this thread
http://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/consumer_rights/reports/Consumer%20rights%20and%20problems/Buying%20goods%20and%20services/Wrong%20prices/Wrong_prices_report_657_120266_2.jsp
Unforunately they can refuse to sell it to you at that price0
