17YO paying tax

Not really doing a "credit report" search, it's trying to verify id by referring to existing agreements, bank accounts, documentation or registrations. Not usually required if your daughter has Government ID (passport or driving licence).
Is she on the electoral register?

Why? Assuming the change has been made straight away its likely been done in time for May payroll run, so it will all be reversed straight away in that pay assuming she is earning roughly the same again.
As for a 17 year old preferring a cheque…..lol. Also HMRC would take ages to do it, it could all be sorted by the end of the month via payroll clawback.

She's already had her first pay.

Yes, she voted last week

Yes, and the overpayment of tax would be automatically paid back on the next pay assuming she hasnt missed the payroll cutoff, think you are misunderstanding me. Why do you think she would want to wait months for a cheque from HMRC rather than it all be sorted via payroll in 2 weeks or so?

If you're saying the tax she's paid will/can be refunded on her next pay, that would be fine.

Thats how the system works. Its only at the end of a tax year where you are likely to have complications, this has happened at the start of one and there are 11 chances (assuming monthly) for it to be rectified in-year, it will happen at the very first opportunity later this month assuming payroll cutoff hasnt been missed for May.

' tax refund ' as a negative deduction normally ( as all the tax stuff is in the deductions column )

it can be a problem if you tax situation is still complicated in February or March or where changing jobs mid month you get your tax code applied by both employers
but it would all come out i nthe wash in either a future tax coding if you owe money or as a refund cheque if you are owed money

Aged 17? I thought the Bill reducing the voting age was still making its way through Parliament?
