Confirmation of holiday entitlement please.
After working 12 hour day & night shifts with the same firm for 35 years , and approaching 65yrs old, I requested to go reduced hours.
Luckily for me, I have had my request approved, and I start my 3 x 8 hour days in a few months.
I haven't signed the contract yet, but what caught my eye was only 15 days paid holidays anually. I checked on the Gov.uk website, and that states minimum allowance for 3 day weeks is 16.8 (against 28 days for 40 hour/week workers)
I was about to raise this with HR, but I have now been told by a colleague, to remember we won't be working any bank holidays (Like I was required to do on shifts), and that 15 days, along with not working bank holidays is considered generous.
Is it true that 15 days holidays, without working bank holidays, is over the minimum required allowance?
Thanks in advance.

the government minimum can include bank holidays…
Bank holidays
Bank or public holidays do not have to be given as paid leave.
An employer can choose to include bank holidays as part of a worker’s statutory annual leave.
that would mean a full time person with the minimum 28 days may use 8 days for the bank holidays and have 20 days floating
If you had the 16.8 days….how many days would you need to use for the bank holidays? would likely leave you less than the 15
How many leave days do the full time staff get and do they need to use leave for the bank holidays?

So FT staff are getting 25+ 8 = 33 days off in total
therefore you should get 3/5ths of that 33 days = 19.8 days leave

Can the OP accept the 15 days annual leave and then have one of the working days on Monday, so they get the majority of bank holidays also?

The working days are rolling, Wednesday to Friday, then Monday to Wednesday, with both in on Wednesday. So almost week on & week off.
I'm very happy with those days, and very lucky. A few have requested reduced hours and I'm the first to be accepted (the job share partner is medical reason)

I wonder if your manager/ HR are using 12 hour shifts x15 days as your prorata rather than 8 hour shifts by 20 days. If the company is closed on bank holidays they may will be included in the calculation, so depending on your rota pattern Xmas, Boxing Day, Good Friday plus any that fall on a Monday when you are scheduled to work leaving 15 days you choose yourself.???

Just to confirm... The place works 24/7 including all banks holidays, Christmas day too. I've been doing them, if rostered, for 35 years. The 40 hr/week day work staff here get 25 days plus not working bank holidays, I will now get 15 days plus not working back holidays.
12 hr shift workers, which I am currently, (average 42hr week) get 16.5 (12hr) days, plus 8 hrs TOIL for each bank holiday not worked, with 12 hrs TOIL & +0.5 pay for bank holidays worked. On top of that there's loyalty days @ 1 day per 5 years (which I will also get). I will also get to keep my BUPA, which I was concerned about.
All in all, I'm now happy, and maybe should have checked before comong here 😁

it would have been useful if you had provided that breakdown at the start.
If you are now doing 24 hours a week and your colleagues 42hours, your entitlement is 24/42 (0.57) of their 25 + 8 (bank holidays). If you use 24/40 it's 0.6.
so 0.57 x 33 =18.81 days which always rounds up, so 19 days total. If you use 0.6 it rounds up to 20 days.
However you seem to be getting 15 + 8 =23 so I'd keep quiet in case your colleagues complain about your special treatment.

Thanks for reply @NCC1701-A , and the feedback.
But my OP was just trying to confirm if minmum holiday allowance had been met, I was not wishing to compare to colleagues. Only to check if I'd understood (or not in this case) the Gov.uk site, what my entitlement was.
In my 2nd post, and I think every one after, I tried to make it clear I was happy with my allowance once I'd appreciated Bank holidays were over and above the 15 days.

I haven't revisited the gov.uk website but I hope it does mention that part-time workers cannot be treated less generously pro rata than full-time members of staff. That automatically means that it is unlawful to treat part-timers less favourably (proportionately) than full-timers.
