Your PAYE Income Tax estimate

I'm about to write to HMRC for the fourth time about tax issues from TY 22/23 onwards for both myself & wife.

Whilst double checking our Gateway accounts I noticed that both specify….

'We're updating your income tax estimate. It will be ready tomorrow.'

Now, I'm thinking that if this is the case I should hold off writing to them again, as 'possibly', they may finally be sorting out some of the issues I wished to raise about our tax affairs. However, 'tomorrow' as they say never comes & this was showing on our accounts a couple of days ago.

Does anyone/everyone have this showing on their account? Is it just misinformation? or should I leave it a little longer before chasing up HMRC?

Does your personal tax account show the correspondence as received by HMRC? If so, when do they think they'll be answering (use the link for an estimate)?

The estimate tells me I should get an answer in January 2027 for a letter they received in December 2025 relating to an NI query.

Unfortunately it has gone past that stage.

All three letters on both of our accounts show as 'Completed' even though they had only answered a part of our queries.

I rang them in December & they agreed that queries not fully answered & tracker changed to 'Received' & I would get a response within 2 weeks. Unfortunately this didn't happen & the status has been changed back to 'Completed'.

NB We initially wrote to them in February 25.

Sorry to hear that; another example of their woeful customer service that is getting worse and worse each year.

With regard to your original question about the tax estimate, I just went looking for this. Eventually found it and it does say

    6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027

    Your PAYE Income Tax estimate

We’re updating your income tax estimate. It will be ready tomorrow.

But, it then gives me some numbers just below that. Go figure!!

Mine has had that message since 7th April when I updated my income estimates which then gave the correct corresponding estimated tax change, obviously a glitch in the system.
