Waitrose bottled beer prices

I visited Waitrose today expecting to find Wychwood King Goblin at the usual price of £7 for 4. It was one of the few decent bottled beers remaining below £7.50 for 4.

Instead, I the price has been increased to £8 for 4: An increase of over 14% !!!

It is now more expensive than premium beers such as Abbot Reserve or Titanic Plum Porter; both still (£7.50 for 4).

You can still get King Goblin at £7 for 4 in Asda.

Despite being within walking distance, Waitrose has lost another customer. ☹️

I suppose if that is all you bought in Waitrose I can understand you going elsewhere from now on.

Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Shopping at Waitrose isn't about prices. And don't forget the free hot drink.

You need to cast your net a bit wider. Morrisons have a huge range of bottled beer at 4 for £7.50, plus a few at £1. Lidl and Aldi do their own beers at <£2. But if you can get to a Homebargains they have the best for quality/value including from their own Love Lane brewery, which are not available elsewhere.

I occasionally drop by Waitrose for harder-to-find beers, as they do the complete range of Fullers' bottles. So price is all relative if I can't find a favourite beer sold anywhere else. Golden Pride really is a tasty drop. The Honeydew golden ale is nice too.

Agreed. Theres so many great beers across the shops. Tesco stock a lot of vault city beers which is a great sour, they have one called Triple Fruited Mango Sour, its the best sour ive ever had and does actually have an adequate sourness to it, most ones you get arent too strong. Also look online, theres a great beer seller i use called the Epicurean who have a lot of choice, definitely more than all the shops.

It's a month since I made that post and am disappointed to note that Morrisons have removed some beers from the special offer. Nevertheless the basic point applies: shop around

When I visited Tesco today I discovered they have removed the '4 bottles of ale for £7.50' offer.

It has changed to '3 bottles for £6'.

A sneaky way to make the price increase appear less obvious.

It makes the price of 4 bottles of Abbot (inc Abbot Reserve) more expensive than Waitrose. Time to visit Waitrose and stock up before they follow suit.
