Tax relief for laundering & professional registration fees
Hi all,
Just filled out the tax relief form on my gov gateway account for tax years 2024-25 and 2025-26, for tax relief on laundering uniform and for professional registration fees.
I started completing it for the current tax year, but it would only allow me to add one employment for this year (I was able to add my 2nd employment for the previous tax years). A quick google has revealed this seems to be the way HMRC do things.
The P87 paper form doesn't appear to be an alternative option either, as I am claiming for 3 different tax years, 2 employments AND 2 different professional bodies.
Just wondering if I am better to submit the online form for the previous tax years and submit a separate P87 form by post for the current tax year so I can include both employments? I don't want to complicate it more then necessary, but equally I want to avoid multiple tax code changes!
More specific question too;
One of the professional bodies I am including for this tax year (NMC), has a planned payment increase in Oct 2026. My annual payment is due after this increase, so presumably, I claim for the amount the will be leaving my account (i.e. the increased amount that has yet to come into effect)? If so, how would I evidence this? A link to their website announcement of the increase?
Any advice greatly appreciated!

AIUI, you can claim for prior years. HMRC may then adjust your tax code for this year to reflect expectation for this year. However, I don't think you can actually claim for this year as you would be claiming for a future event that may never arise and claims have to be for fact, past events that actually occurred.

I would suggest that you wait until after you have paid the increased NMC subscription before making or adjusting your claim from HMRC.

The form allows you to claim for the past four years and the current tax year. I did double check that. So presumably, they must accept "future/continuing payments" if allowing you to do this. I just weren't sure how to evidence it.
The confusing part is my claims are:
- NMC (paid annually by direct debit in Oct 2026)
- RCN (paid monthly by direct debit)
- Laundering (straight forward)
I just wanted to get my tax situation up to date, instead of always claiming back for past years
