It will be the only property he will own as
He is transferring the current property to his partner, so will longer own it.
He will have disposed of of by transferring it / giving it away to his partner.

We need a larger property as we have just had a child and only have 1 bedroom currently, but we do like where we live and could see moving back to it in retirement (but only if the figures stack up and we don't have to sell to buy a larger property). There's a lot of 'what if's' at the moment and a lot of number crunching to do, i just wanted to make sure i understood this avenue. Thank you all so much for your help, it really is invaluable.

Remember if your partner does not live in the flat there is a potential Capital Gains Tax liability when it is disposed of.
