Cotton wool pads - reusable alternative

Hi all,

Our local authority are moving to 3 weekly bin collections, not a problem for us as we never fill the black bin.

But, it has got us thinking about just what we do put in there and we've challenged ourselves to make a more concerted effort to reduce our waste further.

My main waste is cotton wool pads for skin cleansing, I want to start using reusable pads but it seems you have to buy a lot which seems expensive. So, is there a cheaper way of doing this, or any recommendations for which ones to buy?

I currently use 10 a day, but I guess I could switch cleansers to one to wash off with a flannel, or just use a flannel anyway? Then it's just a toner to apply?

I rarely wear makeup, but should have this in mind.

Thank you in advance

10 cotton wool pads a day when you don't wear makeup seems quite a lot to use.

I tend to use a wash off cleanser in the morning in the shower with my hands, and in the evening I use baby muslins - one per cleanse using different sections of a single muslin - I then just chuck them in the washing machine

Before using muslins I used to use cheap flannels from IKEA

You can have 10 30x30cm cloths for £4.50

    Or 4 25x25cm for £1.50

I use CeraVe face wash, which is excellent, with a baby muslin. I've actually cut the muslin into face cloth sizes and hemmed them. It takes off make up easily so you should have no problem.

Thanks both, have an IKEA trip coming up.

The 30x30cm ones we had those for years and never used them, think they went to a carboot last year...

I tend to double cleanse both morning and evening and use 2 pads both times, though I did just turn them over this morning. Then a further one for a toner.

I also like Cerave products so will look out for that next time I'm shopping.

The CeraVe product I use is actually called Hydrating Cleanser @strawb_shortcake and it comes in a pump action bottle so easy to use and I find 1 squirt is enough so lasts for ages .

Cutting up the muslin squares means I have loads of cloths so they just go into the WM with the towels and reusable again and again. Very mse! 👍
