Post Christmas return MADE me money!

I went into a local highstreet electrical store 2 days before Christmas to purchase two items to go with an MP3 i'd bought my bloke. Explained in detail what i wanted and was sold two items totalling £11.98 gave them to my very excited (he's like a child) blokey only to find neither of the items were compatible with the MP3. Returned them to the store, noticing they had a post Christmas sale on...geared myself up to fight for the original price i'd paid...man happily checks my receipt, puts refund through and hands me the pin machine, i notice it says refund £16.98 so put my pin in, thank the man and leave. Check the shelf on my way out only to see that there "new year SALE" price for one of the items was £5 more expensive than before Christmas whereas the other was the same! The easiest £5 ever.
Anyone else made money by returning items? There is a sense of 'ha,ha i beat the system' is that wrong?

  • You can also do this with Amazon.

If you bought goods which have come down in price within 30 days of purchase you can claim the difference back.

This happened to me too with some trousers I purchased in M&S.
When I got them, they cost me £19.99 each.

It was sale day, and they wouldn't let us try things on and it turned out they didn't fit. I took them back a week later to another branch, with the receipt, and on the till, they showed as being £24.99 each.

The person noticed that my receipt only said £19.99... (and I confirmed that was the case), yet she said she had to repay what the till showed her, so she refunded 2 lots of £24,99. I was hardly going to argue!

    Made me a tenner. :) Thanks M&S.
If only I knew... I'd have bought hundreds. lol

Iv'e had this happen before in Boots with an electric toothbrush. Can't remember exact figures but I bought in the sale at something like £30 and when it stopped working a couple of weeks later I took it back. The sale had ended and item was back to full price, I got roughly a £60 refund :j
