PayPal credit card affecting other PayPal use?

I’m at the beginning of my journey… currently missing all the payments on my debts for the first time ever.

One of my credit cards is with PayPal and they’ve been very active about chasing payment (which is about 2 weeks late) with lots of phone calls, which I’ve been ignoring and blocking.

But it occurred to me, is defaulting on my PayPal credit card going to affect normal PayPal usage? I occasionally send and receive money via PayPal. I transfer any money received into my bank account immediately. Will this be a problem going forward? I have a little blog that I publish sponsored posts on for a little self-employed income (all declared and tax paid correctly, of course) but they pay me via PayPal so if that’s going to be an issue, I need to prepare myself for that.

also, I obviously have my bank account linked to PayPal for transferring money across… my direct debit for my credit card has been cancelled, but could they take money from my account using that link, seeing as I use PayPal for other payments and things?

Have you opened a new basic current account or are you still using your old account?

PayPal’s help pages say you can still use PayPal balance, bank account, or debit card for payments and withdrawals, and standard PayPal transfers to your bank are still supported. That said, PayPal also says it may limit the availability of funding sources to manage risk, so there is some possibility of account restrictions if the debt worsens.

  • I'm the same. PayPal account has been completely restricted since I stopped paying pp credit. Apparently this is their standard response. I cant use pay with PayPal and I can't withdraw the £3 in my PayPal account

  • To add to what I said. It would seem stopping paying PayPal credit will completely stop you using PayPal so you should look at alternatives

  • You will likely be able to receive money in to PayPal and you can refund but you won't be able to withdraw

oh great. That’s what I was worried about. Thanks everyone. This might eliminate my self-employed income (it’s a fairly small amount, but obviously handy to have) as I think PayPal is the only option for payment. Oh well. There’s not a lot I can do about it. I can’t afford to keep up the credit card payments just so that I can use paypal.

  • Yeah it sucks. I was surprised they completely restricted my account.
