Self assessment form advice
My friends 87 year old mum has just received a self assessment form, I'm trying to help but unsure if you just half the savings interest if it's a joint account - sorry if that's a silly question. Also, do you mention the banks dividend payments?
Thanks

You, your friend and your friend's mum need to have a look at the notes that accompany the SA form.
Read through them and hopefully the answers will be there.

As above, there are explanatory notes, but the short answer is yes, she must declare her taxable income, which, in the case of a joint savings account, will generally be half of the interest paid, unless there's been any other split nominated with the other party/parties.
What do you mean by "the banks dividend payments", does she have shares in a bank (outside a tax wrapper such as ISA or pension)?
