Just seen this on the Boots thread. Seems very obvious really, not sure what the protocol is on such items but def worth considering for teenage girls.

theres tampax tampons reduced to 8p for 12 regular, 30p for 32 super pack and few other sizes i cant remember prices for.

  • I love doing these too and also missed the collection date last year so have a headstart of three boxes. I'd like to join in and make up boxes through the year this year.

I'd like to make the money that needs to be sent ie £2 per box in some MSE way. Maybe ebay or like.

My mum helps me by knitting hats, scarfs gloves and knitted puppets (knitting pattern on the Samaritan Purse website. My kids donate party and birthday gifts they don't need/want. I agree it is nice to make it a communal project and would suggest advertising for yarn on freecycle or supermarket notice board and maybe even involving a local home for the elderly or seniors social club with the knitting. I imagine I get as much if not more from preparing these boxes through the year as the recipients gets from receiving them (if I hand in on time!:o)

Will be interesting to see how we all get on with this throughout the year.

Another cheap idea I used this year was to make snakes and ladders boards for each box I did. I searched on google images for a snakes and ladders board image, changed the size, printed it off in colour then laminated it. I put a little bag with each containing a dice and a few counters.

I suppose it's only a cheap idea if you already have a colour printer and laminator though!

I try my best to squeeze as many gifts into each box as I can and this takes up hardly any room.

It's great to hear everyones ideas. Hadn't thought about crackers - they always seem to be the last things left in the sales too so should be able to get some great gifts for a fraction of the cost! Thanks leoetal19
  • Today in Primark they had loads of lovely girls' sets of hat, gloves and scarf reduced to only 50p. They had lots of fleecy ones for 2-6 year olds and stripy sets for older girls. I couldn't see similar sets for boys although they did have fleecy hats for boys for 50p.

They would be perfect for the shoe boxes.

In WHSmiths Reading yesterday they had some gorgeous girls pencil cases reduced from £4.99 to 49p. Blue with flowers and looked quite expensive. Seemed to be the only ones reduced by this much though. They were in the clearout section on the end of the display nearest the centre isle. could be used as a teenagers makeup bag as well.

One idea to add to boxes that I did last Xmas was to put a towel in.

I only got hand towels but there were some lovely colours at Asda for £1.67 each.

They tuck in nicely round the other bits and bobs and stop rattling and breakages.
