Private operation failed!

Has anyone else experienced something like this? I opted for a private operation because the NHS wait was just too long, but it ended up failing. They told me there was an 80% chance it would be successful, and now I’m back at square one after shelling out about £10k. Is there any chance I could get a refund or something?

Doubtful. You were told there was a 20% failure rate and you chose to take that gamble.

As above, a 1 in 5 chance of it failing is quite a high risk, however were you given 'any' fixed guarantee of a refund or part refund if you were unlucky enough to be one of the 1 in 5?

You could check the paperwork you signed to see if there is anything that is offered in the event of the operation being unsuccessful however I think you will be unlikley to get anything back.

I’ve reviewed my paperwork regarding the procedure, and I found that there’s no clear guarantee if the operation fails. There’s also no information on what would happen if the surgery doesn’t succeed. I’m really grasping at straws here, hoping there might be some chance of a refund.

I can't see there would be any grounds for a refund, unfortunately.

They still have the costs of the operation, whether it worked or or not. And you were made aware of the risks when you consented.
It’s a chance that you took and unfortunately it didn’t work out.

So unless you consider there was some sort of negligence, I’m not sure you have any grounds.

the procedure will still have cost a considerable amount of money which needs to be paid from somewhere. it is difficult -people get told of the risks of something not working but because they are paying they assume it will be OK

Sadly, sometimes things just don't work. Doesn't mean anything was done wrong. Our bodies arent like cars - heck even then things dont always work but its easier to swap parts out!!!
