Where do I enter payments made to HMRC on Self Assessment?
Both me and the wife have just been ordered to complete SA for the first time for FY 24/25 and must submit by 9 July 26.
This FY (25/26) I’ve been on to HMRC regarding money owed for FY 24/25 and they gave me figures which I promptly paid and I have receipts.
My payment was £2045.20 on 27 Feb 26 and is shown in PAYE tax summary when I deduct the amount of tax paid by my pensions from the gross amount. There is a note saying that payments refunds are NOT reflected in the total. Agreed.
I’ve now started completing the SA online. I have the figures, so NO problem there but I can’t see where I can enter the £2045.20, which I’d paid and I’d really appreciate some help.
By NOT entering the figure it shows that I owe a lot of money, which I’m sure I don’t.
Please, where do I enter the figure?

You cannot include tax you have paid direct to HMRC on a Self Assessment return.
Your Self Assessment liability will be correct without that amount. You then need to arrange for the payment you have made to be allocated to your Self Assessment account (NOT the Self Assessment calculation).
Have you previously received either a P800 or PA302 calculation for the same tax year the tax return is for?

You don't have the opportunity to enter the payments made in SA. SA shows the total amount of tax due for the year, but not any payments made on account. They will be shown separately within your Tax Account.

Thanks!
Thanks, Unfortunately I can't fine where the payments are shown separately, except in my tax summary where I get the figure by deducting the tax from pension from the gross figure as shown in paragraph 3 of my opening post.
With starting SA for the first time all the options seem to be blank waiting for me to submit the return.

So you now need to get the Simple Assessment cancelled if you are filing a tax return for the same tax year.

Thanks: How would I do that? Online or over the phone, if it's the phone would I phone the HMRC normal number of the Self Assessment Help Line?
Would cancelling Simple Assessment then show the £2045?

No, money you have paid to HMRC will never be part of your Self Assessment calculation.
It will (eventually) be a credit on your Self Assessment account which is used to pay the Self Assessment liability.

I could be wrong as things may have changed since I did this but I think you need to talk to the self assessment people because the simple assessment people will not be able to see that you are doing self assessment. Last time I did it the self assessment people said they would need to clear it with the simple assessment people. Previously they just said we will cancel it. Of course I had not paid anything shown as due on the simple assessment so I don't know what they do about moving the money across or refunding it.
I am also not sure if they will cancel the simple assessment before you have completed the self assessment. All the times I called up I had already done the self assessment.
Be prepared for a long call as the left hand checks in with the right hand.
