    1. Either online (like Bell) or by phone (like ii) would, I suspect, be your options. All dealing calls are routinely recorded if that helps.
    2. Yes - best to use the ticker, e.g., T27, TR31, T33 etc, when dealing
    3. Essentially yes. For a gilt ladder you're buying individual gilts. ETFs and bond funds exist but they are normally managed to a specific fund duration so not the same as a gilt ladder held to maturity and won't necessarily meet your requirements.
    4. That'll depend on your platform and also what you're looking to test.

If this sounds onerous, as @Bostonerimus1 says there are alternatives. Each has its pros and cons.

Is there a ISIN number / how do I know which is the index linked gilt I should be looking at? (as ii has more than one ILG) - do I go to IGL ladder and try and work out which one suits me and do it that way?

As I understand it, there's one index-linked gilt maturing each year. For a gilt ladder you'd buy the one(s) maturing in the year(s) that you want the cash.

My go-to source for the specific details is the LateGenXer gilt ladder tool.

Switch to "index linked" and you'll get a list.
