SIPP tax deadline day 25-26

I am thinking of starting a SIPP this tax year 25-26 to take the advantage of the tax break of investing a lump sum as I am no longer working paying 20% tax on my two company pensions, on ii website it states has to be done by Sunday 5th April but also seen online that for tax purposes it’s has to be done today Thursday 2nd April which date is correct to qualify for the tax relief

The legal date is by end of day 5th April, but because that falls over the easter weekend, some providers are giving earlier cut-off dates if you want to guarantee the funds hit your SIPP by end of day 5th April.

    Today for all practical purposes.

Assuming there are providers still able to get this actioned before CoB.

After today it is all Bank Holiday or weekend until the new tax year has already started.

Do you have any earnings in 25/26? If not the maximum you can pay is £2,880 net. Just when you say 'lump sum'

Today is the last working day of the tax year. Most providers are now closed for contributions.

However, a few providers remain open for debit card payments until Sunday. Some say they are open for faster payments, but that would be risky, and a debit card would be preferable.

    InvestEngine's "hold my coat" deadlines!

    Payment deadlines by method

    • Instant Transfer / Open Banking: by 11:59pm on Sunday 5 April. For the smoothest experience, aim for before 6:30pm on Thursday 2 April.
    • Manual bank transfer: by 11:59pm on Saturday 4 April, to allow for bank holiday processing delays.
