Tax Free Childcare Top-up

Hi,

I opened my Tax Free Childcare account today, 1st April. Did a quick tester payment and sent £10 to it, and the payment is showing on the account and has the government top-up...all fine so far.

What I'm confused by is why the message underneath says:

You can get a maximum government top-up of £598.90 for this entitlement period.

I was expecting it to be £500 per 3 months (from opening the account?), so I can't get my head around why it's stating this value? Can anyone help me get my head around this?

I had planned on funding the account with the remaining £1990 in June to max out the government top-up...but feel I'm missing something here.

First child, not a disabled child, so the £500 applies.
