Wix alternatives for websites?
I have run a website on Wix for a number of years now but their hosting is costing me a lot. Now they want £201 for the next two years and this is killing my pocket!
Is there a cheaper way of hosting my website and what would the alternatives be. I also have my own domain but this is not supplied by Wix.
Many thanks.

Two random web hosts 123-Reg and Host Presfo are knocking hosting out at less than £5 a month. Cost of the domain at Host Presto is £6.50 + VAT, 123-reg chucks it in free for the first year but should be able to transfer the existing domain in to either of these.
Note that most providers to get best deals you usually pay for a year's hosting up front, though 123-Reg works out at £3.58 per month for thee years. Most also quote ex VAT so you probably need to add 20% on to prices on the websites.
Other providers are available. To answer the question - yes, you can beat £201.

But bear in mind that Wix offers much more than just hosting - in part you are paying for the Wix tools that allow you to very easily and quickly build a website. With other hosting options like 123-Reg you would effectivdely be starting from scratch.
Although with the myriad of AI tools available now a quality website could be knocked up very quickly - there is probably a tool that will look at your current Wix site and re-create it outside of the Wix ecosystem.

If I remember correctly, the Wix platform is built on Java, so it's just about impossible to just cut and paste the code.
You'll need to start afresh with one of the other online website builders.
But that will still leave with the same problem in later years, because the new online website-building product will also be non-transferable.
Maybe look for one that actually produces html pages, without all the Java scripts.0 -
There are professional hosting services from £0. I have domains on both Freehosting and 123-Reg, no issues with either.
But, as above, you may not be able to easily port your Wix site to another host. Most hosting companies have a bundled site builder, and you could use that.
I also like this Open Source framework which produces easy, responsive sites (which would then be transferable between hosts): https://www.w3schools.com/w3css/w3css_templates.asp
