Employer from 2014-2016 did not pay into pension for 2 years
Hello I have a query about an old employer who I only just realised, after trying to track down old pension providers, did not enrol me or pay into any pension scheme for the entire 2 years I was employed - even the government state pension.
I know the law has changed a bit since this period of employment (2014-2016) but I wanted to see if this was legal since I was sure ALL employers had to enrol you onto a scheme.
I contacted them and they told me they had no pension scheme in place until after I left, but what about the mandatory payments into the government pension?

When you refer to the 'government state pension' do you mean that the employer was not passing on NI deductions from your wage onto to HMRC ?

How old were you during those dates ? How much did you earn ? How large was the company ?
At that stage of autoenrollment, it was still being rolled out in stages via employer size, it was only 2017 that it came into force for all employers.

The staging dates were between October 2012 and February 2018.

Enrolment doesn't apply to the state pension. That is based on your NI contributions. Are you saying you didn't pay NI during those years? (which suggests a low paid role that could be below the band earnings level of auto-enrolment)

Auto-enrolment and the state pension are two different things.
How old were you at the time?
How much did you earn at the time?
Did you pay National insurance (which is for state pension qualification)
How many employees did the employer have at the time? (for example, fewer than 30 workers (existing PAYE schemes) didnt need to put auto enrolment in place until between 1 January 2016 and 1 April 2017 - which is after you left.
