Film set income

I am a Newbie, Hello to all and what a comprehensive website.

I will receive £5000 from a film company for their use of my home. How will HMRC categorise this and can I claim any reduction in tax for staying with a family member while out of my home? For example I have travel expenses and will contribute to their household expenses.

    Does this cover it?

Im not a tax expert, but I'd imagine you can only claim relief on expenses directly related to the rental. E.g. if you needed to have the house cleaned after, or if you had to stay in a hotel....I would think travel might be ok, but household expenses may not apply as you would have been subject to those anyway.

If your out of pocket expenses ( ie hotel and travel) are less than £1,000, you may be better off simply claiming the standard £1000 property income allowance as set out below -

Are you the sole owner or renter? If not, the income and tax bill should be shared with the other co-owners/ renters.
