I find the "I provide my household…" comment to be jarring. I think its the disconnect from the domestic space / lack of reference to family. Do you emply a housekeeper?

Back on topic: I bought 3 x 5-packs of Cadburys creme eggs from Lidl the other day, with a voucher they came to just 25p each but were a want rather than a need - I wouldn't have bought them without the incentive. The same 5-packs were selling for a ridiculous £4.15 each in Waitrose which is a definite "leave them" price - but I am tempted to return on Easter Monday and pick up any of their own brand fancy ones (if the price is right), they have some interesting falvour combinations this year. Similarly the price of nice hot cross buns makes them unaffordable now.

Heard a Tesco advert ' hot cross buns only £3+a pack' I can make dozens for that in a bread maker.

I keep thinking it's Easter this weekend. It gets very confusing when it's at you all the time. Same with Christmas.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

If you've got a foolproof base recipe, I'd be interested! (I'm itching to try out my new mini oven - the CleverChef gives me anaemic-looking results).

We don't spend money on Easter. When my kids were both still at home I'd let them choose an Easter egg each when we did the grocery shop but they're adults and earners now so if they want one they'll get themselves one.

I voted to spending more this year, but that's only having found a bargain this year, against having spent absolutely nothing extra on easter last year, so it would have been hard to spend less.
I realise the cost of everything has gone up and up in recent years, but I still find the relative cost of stuff like creme eggs compared to 6/7 years ago just incredible, and I can't justify to myself paying what feel like the massively increased prices, particularly for inconsequential stuff like egg-shaped chocolate.

I’m not spending any money because I haven’t got any money. The way the chips have fallen I’m on my own this Easter. The weather is looking good. I am not spending on my family this Easter, I have nobody special or kids, my nieces and nephews will get an email or a text which is free.

I've stopped buying Easter presents for my adult children and their partners so it is just the grandchildren who get a bog standard egg each, Spent about £2.50 on each of them.

We have a running family tradition where my mum buys me an egg each year even though I am in my fifties and she is in her late 70's, though still very active and astute.

When she popped by last week she said that she decided not to buy an egg this year because they were all "Tiny, overpriced, palm oil filled rubbish with 20% cocoa." so she bought us a larger weight of far higher quality chocolate instead, which was most certainly preferable.

From what I have heard from many others, particularly this year, I think this will be the beginning of a far larger trend.

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
