Also, sorry, where is the best place for advice on something like this? As I spoke to stepchange & they were basically saying bankruptcy was my only option moving forward.

I'm not saying that ultimately bankruptcy would be avoidable but with 35k cash you have options to avoid it and the fresh mark it would make on your credit file. Hence my advice was not to rush into it. For business debts talk to Business debt line. Personal debts - National Debtline

Completely understand that. Not looking for an easy way out, just trying to figure out my best options with what I've got. Seems silly to pay money off on a debt when bankruptcy is looking like the only solution anyway since I don't have the means to make any payments other than my savings.

If I were to pay rent to my landlord up front before bankruptcy would that cause issues with the official receiver? It is in my contract to pay 6 months up front at the beginning of tenancy & another 6 months after the initial 6 month period has ended.

Is this a business debt or a consumer one?

You have no real income and need a roof over your head when this tenancy ends. That is priority.

You may need a payment arrangement, rather than full payment. This debt appears to be about 1/3 of your total debt.

How much can you afford, given you have no real income?

What's the value of the Local Housing Allowance in your area?

I'm also confused as you say you have 2 young children and a third on the way, and divorced last year? Are the existing children from the marriage?

If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

    The 24k is consumer debt.

My tenancy ends November this year but my landlord is renting it to me long term, so as long as I have the money to pay it I will still be here.

I offered what I could afford to these people as they wanted £350 a week & they refused as I can’t afford to make that a month, let alone a week. As well, that’s not my only debt I need to pay back.

I get £1455 a month from UC. I got denied for PIP for my health problem so don’t get that. I am supposed to be getting more to help with the rent costs but they haven’t set that up yet so should be sorted soon with a back payment. My monthly outgoings are roughly £2500 for rent, essential bills, fuel etc. So until I get the rent part of universal credit I can’t afford to pay anything, without using my savings. I do believe the LHA is worth £900pcm.

No, sorry, I was divorced in 2023, the house was sold last year due to the divorce - I lived in the property up until then. And yes, the existing children were from the marriage.
