Old debt

Please can someone help me with some advise. I recieved a letter from Resolvecall saying that I owed a shopdirect £240. The letter stated if they had no response within 7 days someone would call at my house. I sent them an email stating that I have absolutely no idea what this is for. They have sent me an email back stating

This was a catalogue with Littlewoods, that defaulted on 12/01/2007

A court county judgement was placed on the balance on 23/06/2009, and a case number was provided.

It is now 2026 this makes it nearly 19 years ago. Can they still chase me for this debt? Can anyone advise please what to do next?

Based on that information there is no legal recourse to enforcement action to recover the debt. If anyone calls you can tell them to go away.

They can't enforce the debt without permission of the court after the judgement is 6 years Old - so 2015.

I can't see they are going to go to a lot of effort on this. Just tell them you're not paying and you don't want any lectures on morality.

  • Thank you for the advice. I don't know whether to ignore them or email them back stating that I won't be paying them

You could ask them to prove it’s your debt! However I wouldn’t give them the time of day.

They need to go back to the court to ask for permission to enforce it. Given its early 15 yrs since the CCJ and it’s so little, I doubt they will do so.

They have brought it for nothing and are expecting you to have a oh crap moment and pay it.

Resolvecall are a tracing company/debt collector, that mainly act on behalf of debt purchasing companies trying to collect on old, lost cause accounts no one else will touch.

CCJ`s are subject to sec 24 of the limitation act, although any engagement with Resolvecall will try to persuade you differently, so its best not to get too involved with them.

They have similar rights to the postman, in that they can knock on your door, and you are free to ignore them or tell them to go away, its more then likely you will just find a card in your letterbox, if you do, dispose of it in an environmentally friendly way straight into the recycle bin.
