ASDA
If Asda are downgrading a local manager and then suggesting to current staff they will be training them to do said managers role but not pay them extra, they have to accept it or leave, is that legal?

I can't help with the legality of this but, having worked for both Tesco and Co-op, I've seen this kind of process happening many times and have, indeed, lost my managerial position on one occasion.

Is the manager role ceasing to exist?
Things that are different: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid0 -
Just been told they are "stepping downn" the manager at that store. Its a petrol station one.
Sounds like the manager isn't exactly great but then making regular staff to the work of said manager but refusing to pay seems an !!!!!! move. But then its is Asda so.

It may be under some circumstances.
Without far more details it would be guesswork to comment further.
As a general point there is no automatic legal right to be paid extra for undertaking more responsibility or being promoted.

That's quite normal.
Seen it happen across the Civil Service, private companies and it's very common.
Companies strip a layer of management out all the time.1 -
This is an interesting review of the process as it should work - seems like a lot depends on your contract and job description and how they are worded:

Interesting but of course "should" and "good practice" are not the same as "must" and the letter of the law.
Also, as is often the case with employment law, is there actually any effective deterrent to the management's intended course of action or worthwhile and cost effective remedy available to the injured party?
