From fixed rate to SVR - Gnatwest
Can anyone advise me please ref. going from fixed rate to SVR?
My mortgage is currently on a fixed rate deal that expires at the end of this month. I have already made my max. overpayment for this year allowed under the terms of the current deal. I am in a position to make another lump sum overpayment that will reduce the remaining balance by about 75% and I would like to apply this as soon as possible.
What I’d like to do is:
Allow the fixed rate to lapse so that I revert to SVR on 01.04.26 (this will trigger a recalculation ie, increase of my monthly payments as the SVR is several multiples higher than my current fix rate)
But…
This should also then allow me to make unlimited overpayments - can I do this on the next working day, that is, 02.04.26? Or is there some sort of cooling-off period before I could make another overpayment?
Has anyone done similar recently?
Lender is NatWest. Can’t find a straight answer to this in their online FAQ’s etc. I have tried calling several times but they now aggressively push all enquires to their app and online presence. They make it very hard to speak to someone and the last two times I’ve tried calling, they have quoted wait times of 60+ minutes (after having to wade through multiple prompts of, ‘the answer to most queries can now easily be found on the app’).
No interest in investing / saving the lump sum elsewhere. Just want to chuck it in against the remaining mortgage balance and I think this is efficient in terms of timings etc. Thanks!

Once you are on SVR you can overpay as much as you like.
However, im not sure how much time they need to get you back on to a new product. So you could find you are stuck on SVR for a month rather than 2-3 days.
