MSE Forum Poll: How often do you carry a bottle of water around with you?

Staying hydrated is important, and having a reusable bottle of H20 at hand is fairly commonplace these days. It's meant to be more environmentally friendly than buying a disposable bottle ad-hoc, and can save you having to track down a shop or vending machine. Sometimes public places like train stations and shopping centres will even have refill stations for people to top up while they're out and about.

But when it's not hot, how often do you carry a reusable bottle of water with you?

Vote in the poll then share your thoughts in the thread.

managed for 60 odd years without carrying water at all times, but I do drink a lot of water so if I’m off out and might not be able to get a drink, I’ll take a bottle of council pop with me.

Keep a couple in the car because sometimes the roads are closed for accidents and it's an unexpected long way home. But a couple of double espresso tins to 🙂

I drink enough fluids at home which counts too. Like Horse, we drank from the tap when thirsty. Back in the day you drank at breakfast, mid morning, lunch, mid afternoon and evening meal. Perhaps the mixed up routine working people have now its a reminder.

You can make yourself ill by drinking too much water. I've seen that a few times when it was a trend.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

  • I usually carry a reusable bottle with me most days. It’s just a simple habit that helps me remember to drink enough water during the day, especially when I’m out for a while. It also saves me from buying drinks when I’m out, which is a small but nice saving.

That said, if I’m only popping out for a short trip I don’t always take one, as I know I’ll be back home soon. But overall I think keeping a bottle handy is a good and practical habit.

Sometimes, either when shopping, or on long walks. For me, a weekly shop takes most of the day, as I live in the sticks. A bottle of tap water in the cold box takes about a minute to organise. Sandwiches take longer, but there the saving is even greater, not to mention the superior quality/quantity of the ingredients!

Like @horsewithnoname I managed for 60 odd years without carrying water at all times, but since I retired I go out for much longer periods, so make sure I've always got water with me. Apart from anything else you can't interrupt a bus journey to buy a drink, and there's no shops around on the moor tops either.

Ditto. I'm 52 and carry water with me when I am out cycling. I will also take some when out walking where there will be no access to fresh water or shops for at least a couple of hours, and I keep a couple of sealed bottles in the car for emergencies.

I can't understand how some people can't seem to manage a 10 minute bus or train journey, or a short walk across a town or city centre (or often across an office) without having to continuously glug from something that looks more like a beer keg than a drinking vessel.

I've even had people (who have NOT just finished intense exercise) stop and glug mid-sentence while talking to me. What, you couldn't make it 10 more seconds and finish your darn sentence before taking yet another drink? 🙄
