i too use snack bars all over the country and i agree with quite a few of the comments here and would say to anyone trying to get my custom keep the quality and you will keep the customers. There is a guy in a small town of Cumnock in Ayrshire Scotland who seems to have it spot on its an old minibus conversion but he spent a fortune inside it the girls and guys who work for him serve terrific home made food cheaply and the atmosphere is brilliant find out how he does it and you will make a fortune because his van is in the middle of nowhere and people travel to him for food.0

Hi there Eck, could you tell me where abouts in Cumnock this van is as my husband and his friend have just bought a van and are looking for as much advise as possible. They are setting up near Galston.
So checking out the one in Cumnock would be ideal.0 -
Hello Dan
The Van is situated in the industrial estate where Cumnock College is but i forget the name of the estate its called the wee van co but i dunno why cos its not a wee van its a fair size must have a reason tho i s'pose. The owner is Alex and I'm sure if you ask for him and explain what you are doing he will help you in any way he can ....hes a cheeky !!!!!! but would help anyone. I wouldn't want him to know i like his grub cos i give him abuse ever time i'm there and thats part of the attraction my advice would be to introduce yourself up front though hes that kinda guy.
Eck
btw he may not be in the van but maggie or dawn or the big guy who does the cooking (hugh i think it is) could get you to him best of luck m8 and let me know where u are pitched so i can drop by on my travels0 -
Shame you werent in the North East cos George Bolams (Sedgefield) is brilliant. Oh and if anyones local you gotta try Bolams dinners in the cafe, jeeze the portions are huge. Bolams is also open to Joe Public, I buy my steakburgers there and they are dirt cheap
I was in Bolams yesterday and I can't stand it!! The whole place stinks, I had to leave cos it made me feel sick, there's no way I would ever go back and I definately wouldn't eat in the cafe!
No offense to you, that's just my opinion. My Granda loves it though!
On another note, if you get the chance, there's a little tea shop in Sedgefield that does the nicest pies, quiches and cakes. Everything is top quality and it's to die for!!!:j30/7/10:j

I haven´t been at a burger van for a while, but I remember also having huge doorstop sandwhiches too. Massive things, a nice fresh white loaf.
Whatever you do, dont do this: http://imdb.com/title/tt0118064/

We are just starting up in our own burger van business. as we are both chefs we know that god food is essential for a good trade so we offer everything that is pratical but also cheap, our burgers are homemade yet are quick and easy to cook, we do liver and steaks, currys and homemade soup but it is all about quality. try to come to some sort of maximum and minimum. i.e don't have 100 burgers made up if you only sell about 30 a day we make about 50 and if we sell all 50 (which we usually do) we have made enough money that day to keep us happy, it cuts down on waste and you can make fresh ones everyday.
but this is no ordinary recipe, we had to come up with a practical burger that could be cooked quickly yet tasted fantastic and still had the wow factor.
hope this helps0 -
try your local farm shop our has a butchers section which supplies a few of our burger vans around here there bacon is lovely thick slices and not fatty the van also has a deal with the local bakers were they get there rolls and things they have a notice in the van stating that the bakery goods are supplied by the baker so maybe they get a bigger discount for advertisisng for them this may be something else you could consider0
