My daughter got her 2026/27 Tax Code notice in. The notice confirms she has arrears of £149 (and she is aware) but her allowance has been adjusted by £710 to reclaim that. Does anyone have any idea why the adjustment would be so large? Thanks In Advance.

Because taxing £710 @ 20% results in recovery of the £142 that is (presumably) due.

20% (which I expect is her marignal tax rate) of £710 is £142, which will recover most of the £149 owed.

Is she Scottish resident?
£710 at 21% would be £149.10
