Have you called the solicitors and asked them about it?
I remember back in 2019, I was building a back office system. I wanted it to send out our contracts via email to be signed electronically. EVERYONE I spoke to said it would not be legally binding - except for the law which said providing it captured certain information, it would be.
I pressed ahead and decided to ignore everyone - funnily enough we had the system up and running on the 5th March (2020). Obviously we know what came 10 days later! Funny how all of a sudden everyone else decided to catch up and now it is common practice to have electronic signatures. What I went through for just our contract…
The mortgage process is not going to change overnight. It is changing and improving but some lenders (typically smaller building societies) still want mortgage contracts signed to say you accept it. Most larger lenders work on the assumption if you go on to complete, you have accepted it.
It is archaic, I dont think many people will disagree. But it is what it is. It will improve and maybe by the time you are mortgage free, it will be a lot better. Until then, just be thankful you only have to worry about it every 2-5 years (or longer if you stick with the same lender).

Why is it not going to be simplified any time soon? Why? You telling me nobody has ever been bothered to make a ridiculously laboursome and broken process better/smoother?
It would make things better all round. Not just for the consumer. Surely a better flowing process will make the solicitors life easier too.
But nah, let's keep doing the same old stupid box ticking nonsense.

I didn't call them because what's the point? Aside from witness signatures being nothing more than a redundant box-ticking exercise for the solicitor, this process is daft, given that their portal offers the opportunity to download it yourself and yet they will follow up with more physical forms anyway.
I think after this is done I'll provide them with some useful feedback so they can hopefully update their scatterbrained workflow.

See this….
You say its not worth it.
Then say its worth it…

I don't know how you got that from what I said.
