Has anyone had laser eye treatment with Clubcard points?

I have £1076 of deals but I'm not quite sure how it works

http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/product.aspx?R=584

If I cash in my vouchers as optimax deal tokens and then I'm not suitable what happens?

Also I wouldn't know the cost until I'd been for the appointment in the first place so I don't know how many tokens I'd need.

Am I making this more complicated than needs be or is there a simple way around it?

My wife has decided to use the tokens we were going to use to go to California once I had seen it was being offerd by Tesco Deals!!

She booked the consulatation yesterday for February and if OK will have the actual treatment later that day. We have been given a price which we will now convert into Deals Tokens.

In the past when we had requested Deals tokens for something specific and then had not used them were able to return them to Tesco Clubcard and they were added to points total for the next statement. You may wish to give the Clubcard Helpline a call.

Hope it all works out for you and my wife, (I am sure we will still go on holiday)

You might want to check the Optimax price on Ebay, which they guarantee as their cheapest price. This saves hundreds on the cost of their more expensive treatments, plus I also got an offer of 18 months interest free credit (you don't need to buy it from Ebay - just phone Optimax and tell them you want the Ebay price). I doubt you'd get this price for use with Clubcard deals but it would be worth asking... or working out if the Ebay deal is better!

I had laser treatment in December and continue to be amazed at the results!

I used Optimax last year, best decision I ever made. Have near perfect eyesight now.

I got on their mailing list about 6 months before I decided to have treatment. Over those next 6 months I had about 3 different offers come through, all of which were comparible with the prices they auction off on Ebay. The difference is though, the Ebay prices tend to be for certain times and venues, when they need to fill their books. If you're on make an appointment after receiving a mailshot, you get to choose when and where you want your treatment.

For the treatment I needed I paid around £1,000, compared to their list price of £1,300. If you're paying with clubcard points I can't see (pardon the pun!) that you'll get any discount. That said, I still think it's a really good clubcard deal.

We've just booked a Virgin Holiday with clubcard points and couldn't get discount.

By the way, if you do decide to go ahead they will tell you of all the things that can go wrong and give you written documentation to take away with you. It can make pretty grim reading! This is obviously a legal thing though. The first time I read through it, I was a bit put off, but remember this is a very successful, highly effective, proven procedure.

I had laser treatment in 1993 and the niggles that stopped me going "cut price" with Optimax then worry me even more today when I read about Tesco points and ebay offers...

The clinic I went to offered a free no obligation consultation followed by a no hassle period of time to decide if it was right for me and an appointment at my convenience to have the procedure carried out.

Around the same time one of the young guys in my office went to Optimax, they booked him in for treatment by telephone and his first visit to the centre was the day the treatment was going to be done. When he got there they said "Oh you are under 21 we can't treat you your eyes will still be growing", I was horrified they hadn't asked the question on the phone, what else do they not think about?

My point is don''t just pick them because it's cheaper, do your own research and feel comfortable with the surgeon you decide on.

I have had abot 15 years of perfect vision so far, just recently got some specs for driving at night as my eyes sometimes get tired with the glare.

I spent 6 months looking around at the different options available to me and yes, I must admit, I did go for the cheapest. However, that was not my only consideration. If you search online there are many, many forums about laser eye surgery. Almost all these are used by patients, or potential patients talking about their experiences. I also knew 3 friends who had visited Optimax for their treatment.

When I rang Optimax I was offered an appointment about 4 weeks later. I was told that as a contact lense wearer that I would need to ensure I had not worn them for two weeks prior to my consultation. I was told that during the consultation that I would be assessed to see if I was suitable and only then would I be offered a date for surgery. This is because around 1 in 5 patients aren't suitable for corrective surgery. I was also sent an information pack and DVD. This was a comprehensive guide as to what to expect and possible complicatons.

During the consultation several tests were carried out, some automated, some manual. I was asked questions about my lifestyle, my family medical history as well my own eyesight history. The whole consultation was around an hour from when I walked in to when I left. I then went back four weeks later for my surgery.

One other thing to consider, if you do go ahead with surgery. I was told to avoid UV light for 6 months after my surgery. So, if you enjoy the sunshine, like me, you might consider having your surgery done at the end of the summer! :cool2:

  • I've had treatment with Optimax, twice!

They are excellent, I went with them in their very early days and my astigmatism wasn't addressed which worsened later and they re-treated me for free.

They are only "cut-priced" because they specialise - they are doing this all day every day and are cheaper because their machines are fully in use.

Yes your appointment may be the day the treatment is being done, but you still have some time to change your mind - this is good if it means you don't have to keep making long journeys to get there. There was absolutely no hassle to have the treatment done.

When I went the second time I wanted to have both eyes done on the same day but at my consultation they said I should have the better eye done first and the worse eye should wait until they had their new topography machine which could do a better image and get me better results.

When I went to book in after my consultation (I hadn't booked treatment up front this time as they needed to see what needed doing) I could only make a saturday and the first one they had available was in 7 weeks time ON MY WEDDING DAY! When I tearfully explained that I wanted it done for my wedding, they called the cheif opthamologist out (who was going to be doing me - I had just seen her) and she said - squeeze her in next Saturday - just make an extra appoinment in my day.

Couldn't get better service than that!

My Mum, best friend and an ex boyfriend also had treatment though Optimax and are all satisfied customers.
The best things in life are NOT free - but they sure are cheaper with MSE!:j

My DH went for a consultation about 5years ago with Optimax.
They gave him very little info on the phone when he made the appointment.
However, on the day they gave him an extensive examination, in which they discovered a tear at the back of one of the eyes, making treatment not possible for him.
He wouldn't have known this had he not been fully examined by them, because it wasn't something that could be picked up at on an ordinary eye test.
Their test made him go to the eye hospital and get it sorted out, who know's maybe even saving the sight in that eye?
I believe they are cheap because , as someone has already mentioned, they are usuing their equipment all the time.
Cheaper doesn't always mean worse (although it often does!).

Does laser surgery work for eyes that are just deteriorating due to age where both long and short sight are impaired?

I have to wear specs for driving and then different ones for reading and different ones again for computer work, so I am constantly juggling specs.

Would love to be able to go back to not having to wear any glasses.
