Phoenix Life
Hi there, I have just received a letter from Phoenix Life via DWP Bulk Letter Forwarding Mail Service. Firstly was unaware the DWP had a Letter Forwarding Service and unsure as to why this company is requesting I forward on my personal details. Can anyone verify if this is legit or scam attempt to upsell a policy I may have forgotten I had?

Phoenix are a massive life and pensions insurance firm.
DWP Bulk Forwarding isnt used for marketing stuff, it will be an operational letter about a policy you have with them. Phoenix also dont "sell", they buy other insurance companies books of business and run them off.

They do and it's frequently used by insurance companies to try and track down policy holders for whom they no longer have a valid address:
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -

we used to use it in the 1980s

How can they upsell a policy you have forgotten you had?
as it happens, Phoenix is a closed book insurer. It has bought up most of the unwanted books of closed insurers. It doesn't sell new policies (although it does own the Standard Life brand which has a small amount of distribution still)

It's very likely legitimate and it maybe they have a pension belonging to you that you have forgotten about, and they need to know your current address to tell you about it. But you haven't told us what information they want, nor roughly how old you are, nor indeed whether you've ever moved. If it was me, I'd send them my name and address but not much else unless/until you know more.
