Verify Home Visit
Hello,I owe a couple of debts from an old address about 13 years ago.I never informed any company I owed money too that I was moving.I have recently received a few letters from debt agency's at my new address which I have ignored. The mist recent 1 is from Verify saying they are sending someone for a home visit.I have not heard anything about these debts in the 13 years since I moved house.Does statute barred still apply and can I just keep ignoring them..I am in northern ireland.. thanks in advance for any help

What sort of debts were these, and do either of them still appear on your credit record?

Credit card debt and nothing showing on credit report.Experian credit score is 938.…

Have a look at a Credit Karma report as well. If the two old debts do not appear there, it is a good sign that they defaulted over 6 years ago, in which case they will be statute barred.
I see @fatbelly has given you a link to statute barred letter you can send them in your other thread.1 -
Thanks @ManyWays …do you know if the home visit is anything to worry about or is it just another scare tactic?...just checked credit karma as well, nothing showing up on there either

You can ignore this sort of door knocker. But it is good to state that a debt like this is statute barred, otherwise you may find you have to argue this is court, which is massively more stressful

Verify are not even a debt collector, they are a tracing company engaged by a creditor simply to tell you they are wanting to speak to you about a personal matter.
They are nothing to worry about, engage/ignore whatever, it makes no difference to anything.
I assume you didn`t send the statute barred letters previously, once statute barred, a debt cannot be unbarred, so if it met the criteria 5 years ago, it still does now.
Send the letters this time, put this to bed once and for all.

Thanks @sourcrates ..aye I just buried my head the last time and the letters eventually stopped but they've just recently started up again.....letter states that verify are acting in behalf of ACI

There is only Scottish law amongst the home nations, that really deals with statute barred debt in the correct manner.
In Scotland a debt is extinguished after 5 years, and cannot be chased at all once told of its status.
In England/Wales & Northern Ireland, the law is more wishy washy, and only prevents a creditor from taking legal action to recover the debt, although guidance says they should not resume collection activity on such a debt, once told of its status, you tend to find they will say its still "collectable or due", despite not been able to obtain a judgement against you.
Most companies will stop chasing you once they agree that its out of limitation, but you gotta send the letter first.

Sorry one last question,I hope.If I have reclaimed PPI from these company's in the past will it reset the 6 year timer?....PS-i made the successful PPI claim in 2018 which was7 or 8 years after last contact with company so it would have been statute barred.I was just wondering if PPI claim would be seen as contact again and reset everything..thanx again

if the debt was already statute barred, nothing can "unbar" it.
If it was not statute barred, the PPI claim you submitted almost certainly acknowledged the debt, resetting the clock.
