Video doorbell dilemma - now sorted, thanks :)
Because of the type and position of our front door, we have to open it to see who a caller is. We are getting on a bit, and I would like to rectify that situation before I turn my toes up.
At present, we have a wireless doorbell which sounds in four different rooms when a caller presses the button on the door. It works well. But we don't know who's there!
I thought the answer to our problem was going to be to buy one of those Ring doorbells, but as far as I can tell they just send a notification to your phone. Which is no good to us as we don't always have our mobile phones with us.
We need a caller to press a button which activates at least one sounder in the house, and at the same time lets us see who it is on either of our phones.
Are we asking the impossible?

We have a Ring doorbell and it's great. If someone presses the doorbell we get a notification on our phone and also it makes a sound. Open the Ring app on your phone and you can see who is there,
The great thing is you can open the Ring app anytime and see what's going on outside, great if you hear a noise or just want to nosy to see what's going on (guilty of doing this!)

Fit a spy hole to the door.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.2 -
I had an existing old style button with "ding dong" box. When I fitted a Ring door bell I was able to just connect the box as before.

What sort of sound does it make, and where does the sound come from?

Unfortunately not an option.

Just thought of another question. With a Ring doorbell, could we both have the option to see what's outside on our phones or would it be "tied" to just the one?

Anyone who has access to your Ring account can view the footage.

Alas our existing setup is wireless, so not an option.

But would they also get the notification?

Ring have their own wireless doorbell chimes
Given it's an Amazon product it will require the internet to be up for wifi to work, maybe it will work on bluetooth if the internet goes down.
I hate ring doorbells, they are stupidly bulky in comparison to the former Nest equivalent however Google also rely on internet connections for most things. We have/had a wired doorbell so it works via the physical connection.
Any number of people can see the feed at the same time. Certainly with Nest you can set different alerts etc per user so if someone only wants to know if the doorbell rings whereas the other person wants to know if someone comes onto the property that can be set. Imagine Ring would be the same.
If you dont want to be notified when you are away from the home then you could simply setup an external camera so your existing doorbell alerts you to someone at the door and you can then look on the camera.
