Resolvecall chasing old debt
Hello,
I’ve just had a door knock from resolve call, who are saying I owe a debt to Orange from 2005 of around £400. They sen a letter last week which I ignored.
I don’t recall owing them anything, and have never been contacted regarding the debt before now, as far as I can remember.
Am I right in thinking they can no longer chase this due to it being statute barred? I have never had any legal action taken against me in relation to this or any other debt.
I have sent them a template letter from this forum via email. How long does it take for them to act on the letter? Will they keep sending someone to my address? It was quite embarrassing as I had relatives over at the time of the visit.
Any advice or reassurance would be great, thank you.

Check your credit history in case there is anything hiding on there that you aren't aware of. That said a debt that is 20 years old shouldn't be showing as it should be statute barred by this time and would have dropped off your records in any case.
You've done the right thing to send them something to challenge the debt. I'm assuming it's a statute barred letter. Personally I wouldn't have sent it by email as that just gives them a way to harass you should they want to. It's unlikely that they will but if they do contact you again then send them a letter to tell them to erase all your information as they have no right to keep it. If they continue after that then you can log a complaint for harassment.

There's another thread about Orange/Resolvecall. Sounds like someone has bought a load of old Orange debts. Is it Capquest?
Did you send a prove-it or a SB Letter?

Thank you for your reply. I’ve had a look at my credit report and can’t see anything on there in relation to Orange.
I’m not too bothered about them sending emails/letters, I can ignore those, I just don’t want them turning up at my house.
If they do contact me again though I’ll certainly take your advice and get them to remove all my data from their system.0 -
Thank you for your reply, I’ll have a look for that thread. I’m not sure who it is that they’re working for, the man did say but I was about shocked so I can’t remember the name. It will be on my doorbell camera.
It was an SB letter I sent.

Should someone turn up again (highly unlikely) don't let them in as they have no right to enter your house, no matter what they might say. It doesn't matter if it's blowing a hurricane and they need the loo, they can't come in. If they get "insistent" hold your mobile like you're filming them and they'll get very nice and polite quite quickly. Remind them that there is no debt and they can fluff off.

No great harm done but it's best not to send a statute barred letter on an unknown debt.
It's saying 'this is my debt. I know what it is and it's statute barred'
Safer to send a prove-it
If it turns out to have had payments made to it so it is not statute barred then you have made things difficult

Thank you for the feedback. I will bare this in mind if I ever come across this situation again, I hope I won’t!
I’m 99% sure I’ve not made any payments towards this “debt” so hopefully that will be the end of it.0 -
Thanks for your help, I will definitely not be allowing them access to my home.
They’re clearly trying their luck and hoping that people won’t look into their rights before paying!0
