Finding old loan details - elderbridge/firstplus
hi
dies Anyone know how I can find old loan details from firstplus taken out around 2008 (ish). I’ve had a letter from elderbridge saying I’m due a refund, however I keep failing the security check as I don’t have the full details of the firstplus loan. I settled everything around 2015 and have since cleared out all paperwork annoyingly.
They have tons me they have money they need to pay, but until I can pass the security check they won’t release it.
any ideas?

Old-fashioned letter, require a response.
If you are not happy, refer to FOS

Yes a letter via snail mail is deemed to have come from the person at the address in question, and is legally acceptable in most cases.
Your credit file only holds details of accounts for the last 6 years, anything later than that gets wiped.

1 Have you got any old bank statements going back to 2015?
2 If not can you request a statement that goes back that far?
3 Even if they can't send you an old statement they MAY be able to hold account details on their deleted back office D/D list - its worth an ask.
If you get a D/D reference that normally is the account number (in some form or other) which might give you enough information to get through to them.

According to my local trading standards office (via a rep whom I spoke to today on a local radio phone in) you can request a copy of an old loan agreement from any credit reference agency such as Experian, even if you haven't got the paperwork or car reg number anymore. I haven't tried that out yet, other than asking a question of the MSE Credit Club chatbot which only goes round in circles. I thought maybe starting there might be easier. Not so, it just repeats itself and as already mentioned just says Transunion only hold records going back 6 years.
I'm going to try getting hold of info from Experian and if no joy get in touch with local radio again, as things seem to happen quickly when they pursue answers!

Experian do not hold loan agreements, they just report what a lender tells them i.e. you have a loan with X for £x
Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

"you can request a copy of an old loan agreement from any credit reference agency such as Experian"
Unfortunately you've either been misinformed or have misunderstood what was said. Yes, you can look at your CRA report to see that you have/had a loan with such-and-such a company, the repayment history, whether it's all up to date, that sort of thing. But the CRA don't hold the actual loan agreement.
Even then, the data will drop off 6 years after the loan agreement came to an end.
