Lidl Plus free-item vouchers - what criteria do they use to give you these?
I'm an irregular shopper at Lidl (I tend to do hauls when they have certain specials on), and have a Lidl Plus card, which I recently received a whole load of free-item coupons on. In just one visit yesterday, I bagged for free:
- A Deluxe quiche (large 450g one)
- 6 pack of fruit-corner yoghurts
- A free large sourdough loaf (bakery item coupon includes loaves)
- A bakery sweet
I've now just received a second free bakery coupon expiring in 14 days (so naturally, I'm going to grab a large sourdough again :D).
Does anyone know how these coupons are allocated to Lidl Plus users? My last shop before yesterday, was in November, so I can't imagine it's because of me being a regular customer.
Not looking a gifthorse in the mouth, but would like to work out how they work. Is it seasonal? Is it stuff that isn't selling well?

Based on your experience I would suggest that Lidl is front-loading the incentives to reel you in. I don't think you are going to see a repeat until you cool it for a prolonged period of time AND ignore discount offers. If free stuff is your top priority I would go cold turkey for at least 6 months.
I speak as someone who has become a thoroughly sucked into this system, with no regrets! The rewards are small but frequent, most often spins on fruit & veg / bakery perhaps once a quarter? The cherry on the cake is the school report issued at the end of the year so you can see exactly how much it is you have saved. I think you will find better savings overall by being a regular shopper although with the seeming exception of Asda, all have preferential prices for their "loyalty card" holders by inflating the prices for the minority of the population that don't wish to hand their personal data over.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.1 -
Typically the free bakery item is given after the first time you spend £10 in a calendar month - although I thought it was restricted to the small cakes and pastries rather than entire loaves.

They have a spin to win promotion on at the moment for bakery items.
I suspect I don’t spend enough effort to be offered very much at all. It jumps from £10-£50 for the freebie. I never spend £50 over whatever the time period is.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.2 -
everything in the bakery section is horrid and stale tasting anyway.

Yes, I did wonder if that was the idea. I tend to spend £30+ on certain special-weeks (Italian, Iberian, Chinese, etc) to stock up, but not regularly every week (purely because other supermarkets are nearer).
I'll see if anything else drops into the app, but I did wonder if it was to reel me in again.
