  • Could explain why the TFL bib man was out on the concourse and not behind the ticket office windows for BR.

If you buy a ticket using a Railcard at a station ticket office, they do insist that you show the actual Railcard. At least my local station does. I asked why but they wouldn't budge on that.

I haven't used a staffed ticket office to buy a ticket in well over a decade, only a machine, website or via an app.

I can understand why the requirement in a staffed ticket office would be different as it's possible to ask for the Railcard. The app/machines aren't set up to do this - so people can risk not being caught... Of course if they are, then it's the same as not having a ticket.

  • I have managed to change the name to my friends name when I sign in to my TfL account, so hopefully that will be enough to add the SRC. It does look like she needs to sign the SRC before I can get the card added to the Oyster, shame as it will mean it won’t be ready to go when she arrives and it cannot be added at either LHR or my local Richmond Rail Station. Might chance my arm and ask if it can be added before, if I show a screen grab of her passport, names will match. Nothing ventured et al.

Update. I went to Hammersmith today and as I came out of the gates. I asked a TfL person where the booking office was, she asked what I wanted and I said to add a SRC to an Oyster, she said it can be done on the machines, so she took control and did it for me, no query about the non signed SRC, just said the Oyster had to be registered. Are there different kinds of ”registered”? I log in and it shows me the amount of money still on the card, says welcome with my friends name, has my email, address and bank card number, so I assume it is registered but I cannot see the added SRC anywhere. The lady said the card needed to be registered, so I’m now wondering if it is or isn’t?

    "booking office"? Heh.

If you are seeing the details of the Oyster card on your online account then it's registered.

There's no indication online that I can recall of the fact that the SRC has been co-joined, you'll only be certain when you make a journey and can see the discounted deduction from the balance.
