Marriage Allowance Cancellation

I am aware that when it is cancelled the change does not start until 5 April.
Is anyone aware how late you can do the cancellation?

I want my wife to keep it until the end of this tax year and then transfer it back to myself.

It makes no difference when you cancel, because it'll continue until the end of the tax year, so if you know you're going to cancel with effect from 6 April 2026, the timing of the instruction makes no difference anytime throughout the 2025/26 tax year?

Outside of exceptional circumstances (divorce, death, etc) it has to work in whole tax years, as it would be too complex otherwise, so in any given tax year either one spouse has the full annual allowance or the other does.
