Help! My wipers won't switch off
As per the title, the wipers on my VW Polo won't switch off despite the fact the stalk is in the off position. The car was valeted earlier today, I suspect it may be linked. I called the company but they said it's not something they've encountered before. They said to call VW.

May be a pure coincidence.

What age Polo…?
Assuming one that's relatively modern, so multiplex electronics…
They're definitely OFF, not set to auto?
Have you tried disconnecting the battery, counting to thirty, then reconnecting?
If none of that works, it's probably time for a full fault-code read - likely the switch, perhaps due to moisture ingress from the clean, but you'll never prove it.0 -
Hi @Mildly_Miffed it's a 2015 Polo, so not new. The stalk is definitely in the 'off' position rather than the intermittent setting.
No, I haven't tried disconnecting the battery. Is that easy to do?

Probably a failed wiper switch. Unfortunately the airbag and steering wheel have to come off to change it. Once those are out of the way it's easy. Part is £50 to £100 depending on how long you can wait.

Pull the fuse for the wiper motor rather than disconnecting the battery as a first point of testing.

Thanks, but this is too technical for me. It involves removing airbags and the steering wheel! I don't trust myself to put it safely back together! I'll have to take to a garage

Look in the driverd handbook. It will tell you where to look for the fusebox and which fuse, otherwise take it into a garage.
DO NOT attempt to remove the Air Bag

UPDATE: Hi everyone, just providing an update in case this happens to anyone else. I took it to a garage who repaired it. They said some water had got into a control box, which I think is located underneath the carpets. The garage dried it out and it seems to have resolved the issue with the wipers
