I also think pet insurance can be discounted. Have you tried checking out various agencies to see which one offers the best price?

This one I may need help with. We have lifetime cover on the insured pets but I was of the belief we were pretty much monopolised for risk of having issues not covered for anything they have been to the vet for before (never claimed on any of them)
Our dog insurance is just coming up for renewal so will be a good start when I better know what we can and can't do (the renewal for this is around £80 a month for a 2 yr old Golden Retriever - it is pretty crippling!)

my 9yo dog costs about £25 a month for lifetime cover if that helps with ball park figure

It depends on the breed AFAIK, plus there is the query about swiching and what may end up excluded
