I think that was no doubt true 25 years ago but as each year passes more and more "older people" are used to the basics of the online world.

Someone retiring this year at age 67, born in 1959, would have been 22 in 1981 when the ZX-81 hit the shelves of WH Smith.

Every new retiree has spent very nearly their entire adulthood in the age of widespread home computers. While there will be exceptions, almost everybody is online to a degree.

I think though that it could also depend to some extent on what sort of job you have/had, and how much you had to use computers, smartphones etc.

Or you may not have worked at all for many years and fallen behind the modern world.

I had a car phone in 1986 !, although I was a bit wary about computers until I was forced to start using them more regularly around the mid 90’s

It's been said before, the posters on this forum and more so this sub-forum, are not representative of the population.

"AI Overview - Approximately 59% to 76% of adults aged 65-70+ now own a smartphone".

My work colleague who is 69 has a smartphone, but she doesn't use it fully; she gets her daughter to do many of the things needed.

    Here's a chart from uSwitch:

Looks to be towards the upper end of the range, close to 80%.

And there's ways to be online without owning a smartphone. As well as regular home computers, there are public access terminals in libraries etc.

Yes, this is the unknown bit- how many of these smartphones are being utilised fully/easily.

In fact they are packed with so many features and things you can do with them, then even the 'young 'uns' will only ever use a part of them.

Vehicles with tech are also a problem, last week I had a 6-month-old VW Crafter, I managed to put the auto box into neutral and set a top speed of 15 mph all whilst driving at 30mph - unintentionally.
